I just wanted to update everyone on Shaun's condition. His surgery went well because he had one of the best doctors in the country. Everyone at the hospital was helpful and took excellent care of him. He is home recovering now and is doing exceptionally well. It looks like we will be in California for about two or three months as Shaun gains his strength back. Of course we would rather be out running some trail or hiking, but for now we will focus on getting better and try to make some plans for the future.
I have been thinking about the things I want to blog about. Since Shaun's surgery and knowing that I am going to have to change therapies when I see my doctor again. The only way I can feel in control of our unfortunate situation is to focus on all the positives. We have had so many of our friends and family supporting us as we walk our journey to healing. Knowing we have people who are cheering for us and supporting us in other ways means so much to us. Thanks everyone.
So I thought I would start a blog about all the healthy things I am doing to fight my cancer. Traditional therapy plus a healthy lifestyle has been my savior. I also believe my positive outlook on my situation has helped me tremendously too. Each of us has something in our lives that we are struggling with, but I believe that how we choose to view our situation is the key to our outcome. I choose to be happy and each day I focus on all the positives in my life. Everyday is a gift and I am grateful to be alive. I choose to live my life to the fullest and live it as healthy as I can.
Here are some of the healthy things I did today
- Yoga class in the morning
- Kept myself hydrated with lots of water. Sometimes I add lemon or oranges.
- For lunch I had a big salad with some cooked collard greens from Whole Foods Market.
- A virtual movie date with my bestie Julie. She is in Murphy, and I am in California. So we watched the movie "Wild" at the same time. We even made the same healthy snacks, quinoa pizza bites, and for dessert yogurt peanut butter dip with fruit.
- I have cut out processed food and sugar. Cancer feeds on processed sugar. So whenever I want that brownie or ice cream, I substitute with fruit or a recipe that uses natural sweeteners like honey.
- Each day I try to connect with someone far away that I love. I believe that friendships are key to staying healthy.
- I also connect with my mom or sister daily.
